The only shop of its kind...

Head 2 Head was opened in 2002 to help supply top quality goods and to better educate people in the growing and use of Marijuana. Since 2004, we have grown medical grade marijuana for people free of charge, while documenting the effects of different strains of marijuana on different medical ailments. The fonder of Head 2 Head, Tim Selenski is not to be confused with your average Health Canada card holder. He not a medical user of marijuana, but one of 77 people in 2004 that was offered a designated growers license, as well as the only one that owns a true Head Shop. By donating all of his time and money in sharing what he has learned about all of the good and bad aspects that come along with legal marijuana, he has managed to help countless people acquire their license to use and grow Marijuana. Some of the bad:  Buzz’ info.

The first problem I encountered was when I decided to get a custom 12-foot leaf suit, named Headly the Hemp leaf, to walk in the city parade. This resulted in being treated like a criminal for trying to advertise my store and to get the awareness out there. Why was it ok, I repeatedly asked myself, for 12-foot beer cans, a float of drag queens and a huge float saying “It’s ok to gamble” be acceptable and not Headly?! Every year I try be a part of this city event and have yet to be accepted to take part in the parade.

The second problem was when I decided to get a personal license plate that read “HEMP”. On the arrival date of my plates, I got a nasty letter from SGI. The letter read, “Hemp is marijuana” and “Hemp is a drug“. These were their reasons for not allowing the plates. I thought education was mandatory to work for the government.

Third was when I decided that I had spent so much money on the grow supplies, building materials and security, that being a legal grower, I needed to increase my house insurance to cover the costs of replacement if need be. When my insurer became aware of my growing, they gave me 30 days to shut down the grow show. That was 40 days away from finishing the crop. I had already paid for power, grow supplies and not to mention the time that I had put in, for a sick man to get free medicine. So, thinking it was no big deal, I planned to simply get a different insurer like SGI, whom had already paid a man out for his marijuana that had been stolen.

However, like SGI and all of the other insurers in Saskatchewan, no one would give me insurance, putting my store and my home at risk of losing everything. So, wasting all of that money and time, I was forced to shut down the grow. When I cut the plants down, I knew I had to share my story so that people doing the same thing as me would not lose everything. After being on TV, the radio, and in the papers, I was finally approached by an insurer out of Edmonton, Alberta. I now have to pay $1000 more for my insurance a year and a deductible that went from $162 to $900, just to be growing again. I had to set it all back up and start fresh.

The fourth time I ran into problems was when Health Canada thought I was too controversial and therefore wanted to cancel my license.  At the same time, a different division of Health Canada tried to fine my store for selling tobacco paraphernalia to minors.  Luckily I still had a valid license to sell marijuana, allowing me to say that my store sold no tobacco paraphernalia and that I only sold marijuana paraphernalia- very different than the shops who, for the past 40 years, have been claiming their pipes were intended only for tobacco use.
